About Founder

Nayantara Nursing Home is a superspeciality eye hospital with an experience of 70 years and half a million eye surgeries under its belt.

It was founded by Ophthalmic Legendary Dr. Y.M. Paranjpe aka Bhaiyyasaheb Paranjpe in the year 1950.

The hospital had a very humble beginning and was started as Paranjpe Clinic at Rajwada Chowk, Sangli. Within a few years success of this hospital grew leaps and bounds and this was all because of scientific approach and adaptation of the recent techniques in eye care which were adapted by Dr. Paranjpe.

Dr. Y. M. Paranjpe was ophthalmic surgeons of many famous personalities like Mr. Bhalji Pendharkar, Mr. P. L. Deshpande, Mr. Bhimsen Joshi, Mr. Appasaheb Pawar, Mr. Balasaheb Devras to name a few. He was the first Indian ophthalmologists to start operating under microscope and to introduce Intra Ocular Lens Implantation in India. Dr. Bhaiyyasaheb Paranjpe started Nayantara Nursing Home in 1984 in Gulmohor Colony, Sangli. Recently he received posthumously Life Time achievement award from All India Ophthalmic Society held at Delhi in February 2020, the highest award of AIOS.

Dr. Shekhar Paranjpe, son of Dr. Bhaiyyasaheb Paranjpe has been working in this hospital since 1981. He is one of the first phaco surgeons in India. Dr Shekhar Paranjpe has extensively worked in creating awareness for eye donation since last 35 years in rural parts of South Maharashtra. After completing his post graduation in Ophthalmology he underwent further training with Dr. Harminder Singh Dua at Moorfield’s eye hospital, UK. Since then he has been extensively working in the field of Cataract, Corneal Diseases, Glaucoma and Retinal diseases.

Dr. Gaurav Paranjpe, son of Dr. Shekhar Paranjpe, joined Nayantara Nursing Home in 2012. He has completed his Fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery at Retinal Foundation, Ahmedabad under the guidance of Dr. P. N. Nagpal and Dr. Manish Nagpal. He has published many Scientific Papers in Peer Reviewed Journals and also presented papers in State and National Conferences. His main area of interest is Retinal Diseases.
